Jajpur: Authorities reported the recovery of a six-year-old boy's body from an abandoned stone quarry in Jajpur district on Thursday, just a day after he was reported missing. The child, identified as Shivu Rout, was the son of Bauribandhu Rout from Chargotha village, according to police.
Inspector Nirupama Jena of the Jenapur police station stated that the father has been detained following a complaint from the boy's maternal uncle, and an investigation is currently in progress.
Reports indicate that Shivu was last seen playing outside his maternal uncle's home on Wednesday evening before he disappeared. His body was discovered floating in water collected in the quarry the following morning. Local residents, including the boy's grandfather, expressed suspicion towards Shivu's father, Bauri Rout, who had reportedly expelled his wife and son from their home days prior. Shivu and his mother had been residing with the maternal grandfather. Allegations arose that the father may have harmed his son to pursue a new relationship.
To gather evidence, scientific teams have been deployed, and police investigations are ongoing. As tensions escalated in the community and locals began searching for Bauri, law enforcement dispatched a platoon of 30 personnel to the village to ensure public safety.
